Intellivision was one of the few video game systems that had survived the American downturn of 1983, in Europe the Intellivision had little success because of various personal computers, such as the Commodore 64 and MSX that were especially popular in the Netherlands. Those "home computers" ensured that the Intellivision and other game consoles remained a niche market. The company INTV Corporation acquired the system from Mattel in 1984. Game consoles and new games were made until 1989. A total of 3 million units were sold of the system, and 125 games were made for the system.
The computer games released by Mattel do not contain the names of the designers anywhere, but they do contain the name of the team: Blue Sky Rangers. This was a general guideline used by almost every game console developer until 1982 to prevent programmers from being lured away by competitors.
